Kachali calls for fair business practices

Vice-President Khumbo Kachali has urged business partners in the country to engage in fair business practices so that both producers and buyers benefit in a win-win situation.

Kachali, who toured all 95 pavilions mounted at the 10th National Agriculture Fair at Chichiri Trade Fair grounds in Blantyre yesterday, observed that unfair trade practices would affect the economy in the country.

Kachali also urged Malawians to take the “Buy Malawi Campaign” seriously, arguing that the tendency to shun Malawi products at the expense of imports is retarding business in the country.

“There is a tendency by most buyers to shun smallholder farmers, who are producing high quality produce and prefer to import. This is not fair as it retards business of our business-oriented farmers.

The 10th National Agriculture Fair is being held under the theme Agricultural Productivity: The Foundation of Industrialisation.

Malawi Confederation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Matthews Chikankheni said the agricultural fair dates back to 2003.
